I realized something while I was there: I haven't tried out a lot of gastronomical delights ... I mean KL is like any other busy metropolitan city in the world ... When it comes to food, this city has a lot to offer, and I'm not just talking about signature Malaysian dishes ... I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it, but I have absolutely no idea when it comes to finding the perfect meal in Kuala Lumpur ... I think adventurous tourists would have better luck than I do in this respect ... Sometime ago, a friend of a friend from Australia came to visit, and I had no idea where are the best eating places to take her ... Now I realize that all I have to do is just explore the city that I call home all my life, the f**king idiot that I am ... The thing about hunting for food haunts is that it is nicer (and to an extent, safer) if I had company ... Alas, I'm all by myself, and there are places I will not go on my own, even during the day ... But, that does not mean that I can't find delicious food elsewhere ...
And so back to the cavernous Pavilion KL food court ... I had just came out from the underground walkway between Fahrenheit 88 and the Pavilion when I came across this kiosk called Stuff'd ... It offers Mexican and Turkish takeaways ... Now, up until then, I had never tried Mexican food ... I've had doner kebabs, so not really interested in that ... But, I was piqued by the burritos, quesadillas and tacos on offer ... I wasn't sure whether I could finish a burrito or a quesadilla, so in the end I settled for a taco ... As it turned out, the fixed set comes with two tacos ...
Now I don't know whether this is authentic Mexican or not, but the tacos tasted delicious ... Obviously I don't know what kind of spices they use, but in the words of Adam Richman, "the spices hit the right notes by not overpowering the meatiness of the taco, at the same time adding to the richness of the beef" ... The only thing I might complain is that I couldn't taste the salsa, or whatever sauce or spread they use ... Also, I asked them to leave out the cilantro ... I DO NOT LIKE CORIANDER OR CILANTRO ... However, on the whole, it was a good meal ... I might return to try the quesadilla ... which I did, like, a week later ... This time I tried the quesadilla ... But, I went for the beef again ... Maybe next time I'll try the chicken ... Whoa! The habanero sauce really kicked its way about my palate, but I'm an absolute masochist when it comes to hot and spicy stuff, so all the better ...
After that, I dawdled a bit in the food court ... There are other dishes I might try out ... Teppanyaki, for example ...
After going around the food court, I dawdled around the Pavilion, looking at all the high-end stores ... I don't have a job and am nearly penniless, but I felt like I deserve to look at all those stores even if their retail assistants would look down on me from their high perch ...
I came out of the Pavilion to the section where it connects to the long covered walkway to KLCC ... I'm sure there is a specific name to this part of the Pavilion, but I just couldn't be bothered to find out ... Anywayz, besides the basement food court, the Pavilion offers delectable cuisines in other floors as well ... There are restaurants on the top floor, and I remember having a meal with my former work buddy C at one of them ... Then, there is the aforementioned section ... I didn't go to all the levels, but if I'm not mistaken, there is a Tony Roma there (which has moved to somewhere near the food court) and I've tried a Tony Roma burger ... The thing is, that was sometime ago, so I can't for the life of me remember how it tasted like ... I do remember feeling stuffed ... Then I came across this ...
I've tried a KGB burger at the outlet in MidValley Megamall ... I don't know whether that one is still around and I don't really care ... You know why? It may say 'Killer Gourmet Burgers', but the burger I had tasted like a glorified cheeseburger ... Yes, I don't remember the taste, but I do remember thinking, "What is so great about this burger?" ... But then again, that was sometime ago, so maybe I should just give another KGB burger a try ...
I can't say for all KLites, but the best burger I've had so far is the one at Burger Lab, which you can find at My Town (Maybe they have other outlets that I don't know of) ... It was a couple of weeks ago during Ramadan, so I had that Burger Lab burger on takeaway ... Because of the packaging, it seemed small, so at first I thought "Not another glorified cheeseburger" ... Iftar was a few hours away, so I left it in the microwave after reaching home ... When the time came, I took the burger out of its packaging, and well, I wasn't that impressed ... So what with the charcoal buns ... But I had a bite and I fell in love ... The beef tasted fresh and juicy ... I wish I could be as descriptive as Adam Richman, but alas, I can't even remember the name of the burger ... I'm definitely coming back to Burger Lab and perhaps try out the chicken or fish burger ...
Otherwise, why don't you try out the Korean burger that McD is selling right now (Possibly no longer available at the time of posting) ... Even though you can tell the beef is processed, the burger tastes pretty good ... Speaking of glorified cheeseburgers, I passed by this as I walked to KLCC ...
It was a long time ago, so of course I can't remember how the burger tasted like, but I do remember thinking "I am never getting a burger at this joint again" ...
Well, that's the extent of my gastronomical adventure for now ... Of course, there will be other trips and more eating places to venture in the future ...
