Way back when before the advent of flat-screen plasma TVs, there were flat-screen LCD TVs which I suspect were still using the now legacy cathode-ray tube technology ... Well, at least that is what I think my type of TV set is ... Being the dumb Brainjuice that I am, I'm not too sure whether my TV is actually an LCD screen TV ... I happened to have bought this particular kind of TV in 2006 ... Now, as part of my room makeover, I have to sell it off 'coz I need all the space to make my room more, well, spacious ... It's just I didn't realize that selling old and used equipment, even at dirt-cheap prices, would be so hard ...
First, I used the trusted word-by-mouth method ... But even the bujang-bujang guys staying near my place, including the guards at the guard house, don't seem to be interested in buying my poor old TV ... I even mentioned that my TV comes together with the stand, but that didn't work either ... So, in the end, I've decided to put up an online ad at www.mudah.my ... If anyone is interested, pls look it up as my contact details are there ... My room makeover project cannot proceed until I sell off the TV ... If push comes to shove and I can't find a buyer by the end of this month, I'll just take it to the TV repair shop and get peanuts in return .... Sigh ...
Update 10/01/2014
Whaddaya know, it actually worked ... Putting up an online ad for an old TV priced dirt-cheap attracted interest like bees to honey! ... In the 24 hours after the ad was posted on www.mudah.my, I had at least more than a dozen people texting me ... I posted the ad at about 10pm on Wednesday, and by nineish in the evening on Thursday, the TV was sold ...
I was rather apprehensive at how business is conducted over online Craigslist-like sites such as Mudah, bearing in mind that I am giving out personal details to total strangers just so I could make a few bucks ... I seem to recall some gruesome murders in the US a few years ago that's related to Craigslist, granted that the services in question offered via that site was for, ahem, pleasure rather than business ...
Then, there is the question of the business at hand ... How can I be certain that business could be done with transparency when people would call up and say that they are "confirmed" in buying the product and/or service, but afterwards turn back on their word? ... This didn't happen with my case in selling my good ol' TV, but it could have ... A few people texted me, saying that they would take the TV without even viewing the product first ... How would they know that I'm not ripping them off? Yes, they could test the TV when picking it up, but my point is, once you say that you are "confirmed" in buying a product and/or service, you can't really back out from the deal, can you, once you find out that you're getting a lemon? ... Well, I'm not selling a car, but you get the general idea, right? ...
For me, I can only be certain that the deal is done once both parties shake hands on it, what one of the people that expressed interest in my TV called a "gentleman's deal" ... I got all these texts and I wanted to make sure that everyone gets a fair shake at the deal ... People who texted first and wanted to view the TV, but had commitments and couldn't make it at the earliest time got left out of the "buying game" as those who could make the time managed to buy the TV first ... What I should have done is put in the ever-useful phrase "First Come First Served" in my ad, then at least people won't feel like that they had gotten the short end of the stick ... I dunno, I guess I just wanted to be fair to all without it becoming a shortcoming to myself ... Anyway, I sold the TV and now can move forward with Phase 2 of my major room makeover :) ....
